The Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Tufts Medical Center in Boston is a one-year ACGME-accredited program for cardiovascular specialists who want to advance their skills in catheter-based procedures. Fellows gain hands-on experience with a wide range of diagnostic and interventional techniques while working alongside experts in a high-volume academic medical center.

The program includes coronary interventions as well as exposure to peripheral vascular and structural heart procedures. Fellows train in modern cath labs and join a team that prioritizes technical excellence, patient safety and continuous learning.

Education and research are key parts of our fellowship. Fellows take part in weekly didactics, case conferences and journal clubs, and have access to research opportunities supported by our interventional cardiology research team.

ACGME-accredited heart failure + transplant cardiology fellowship at Tufts Medical Center + Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

The Division of Cardiology at Tufts Medical Center in Boston offers a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, conducted in partnership with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. This program is designed for board-eligible or board-certified cardiovascular specialists seeking advanced training in complex heart failure management, heart transplant care, and mechanical circulatory support.

Fellows receive comprehensive clinical training at both Tufts Medical Center and BIDMC, gaining hands-on experience in:

  • Inpatient and outpatient care of advanced heart failure patients
  • Endomyocardial biopsies
  • Pre- and post-heart transplant management
  • Ventricular assist devices (VADs) and other mechanical circulatory support
  • Novel drug therapies and cutting-edge clinical research

Tufts Medical Center is one of the highest-volume heart transplant centers in New England, supported by five experienced heart failure and transplant cardiologists and a dedicated nursing team. Fellows also train on the specialized cardiomyopathy service, a 14-bed intermediate care unit for patients with advanced heart failure, VADs and transplants.

At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, fellows gain additional exposure to advanced heart failure therapies, including ECMO management and device-based interventions, in collaboration with interventional cardiology and the nationally recognized Smith Center for Outcomes Research.

Our regional referral network across New England provides unique opportunities for fellows to collaborate with leading heart failure specialists and participate in innovative clinical trials and quality improvement initiatives at both institutions.

Two-Year Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Training in Boston

The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at Tufts Medical Center is a two-year, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education–accredited program affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. With more than 35 years of experience, we offer advanced, high-volume training in a supportive academic setting.

Fellows gain broad exposure to both inpatient and outpatient electrophysiology. You'll develop expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex arrhythmias, as well as procedural experience in:

  • Catheter ablation for atrial and ventricular arrhythmias
  • Device implantation, including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization therapy
  • Advanced device management, lead extraction and left atrial appendage occlusion

In addition to clinical training, fellows are expected to contribute to education and research. You’ll:

  • Teach medical students, internal medicine residents and cardiology fellows
  • Participate in weekly educational conferences, case reviews and journal clubs
  • Engage in clinical or translational research, with support from faculty mentors

Our graduates are well-prepared for careers in either academic medicine or private practice. The program emphasizes procedural competence, scholarship and leadership in the field of electrophysiology—all within a collegial and collaborative environment.

Comprehensive hematology + oncology fellowship with subspecialty clinics and community experience

The Tufts Medical Center Hematology + Oncology Fellowship Program is an ACGME-accredited program that offers comprehensive training in all aspects of hematology and oncology. This three-year fellowship offers a balanced and rigorous experience designed to prepare physicians for leadership roles in academic medicine, clinical care, research, industry and health policy. Graduates are eligible for board certification in both hematology and medical oncology.

Fellows benefit from a wide range of clinical, research and educational experiences, including:

  • Broad clinical training in benign and malignant hematology, thrombosis and hemostasis, cellular therapies and solid tumor oncology
  • First-year focus on immersive outpatient care, including subspecialty clinics and a community-based rotation at Lowell General Hospital
  • Second and third years centered on mentored research, with advanced inpatient training in stem cell transplant, consult services and palliative care
  • Longitudinal continuity clinic throughout all three years, with electives and access to specialized programs like Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivorship
  • Comprehensive curriculum delivered through regular case conferences, lectures and journal clubs
  • Strong track record of graduates advancing to academic leadership, clinical excellence and scientific achievement

In the anesthesiology department at Tufts Medical Center, we strive to instill all of the above through our challenging residency and fellowship programs. We also offer clerkships for medical students and an extensive program for the training of student nurse anesthetists.
