Thank you for your interest in the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency Program at Tufts Medical Center.

For more than 70 years, our program has trained well-rounded, diagnostically excellent pathologists who are equipped to meet the clinical, research and educational demands of a fast-changing field. As a medium-sized program with 12 residents, 2 surgical pathology fellows and 1 hematopathology fellow, we offer a balanced mix of clinical and didactic experiences in a supportive environment that values teamwork and interprofessional collaboration.

We actively encourage resident involvement in research, working alongside faculty whose academic interests span the full spectrum of anatomic and clinical pathology. Our graduates go on to thrive in a wide range of settings, including academic medicine, private practice and industry. With strong ties to Tufts University School of Medicine, we are proud of our long tradition of mentoring and preparing the next generation of pathologists.

Pathology Residency Program

Comprehensive pathology residency training at Tufts Medical Center

The goal of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Residency Program at Tufts Medical Center is to provide balanced, comprehensive training in both anatomic and clinical pathology. Our residents gain a strong foundation through hands-on learning, academic engagement and close mentorship from dedicated faculty and staff.

Most of the training takes place at Tufts Medical Center, a 415-bed tertiary care hospital and the principal teaching site for Tufts University School of Medicine. Our program offers a unique mix of clinical exposure, research opportunities and subspecialty depth across all areas of pathology and laboratory medicine.

Graduates of our program consistently match into top fellowships in the subspecialties of their choice and go on to successful careers in both academic and community pathology settings. We take pride in preparing skilled, thoughtful pathologists who are ready to meet the demands of a fast-changing field.

Our residents consistently produce high-quality scientific research across all areas of obstetrics and gynecology. Each year, they present their work at national meetings and publish in respected peer-reviewed journals.

We take pride in offering an exceptional resident research curriculum. Residents have dedicated research time, expert mentorship from leaders in the field, and access to experienced research staff and statisticians. Our program fosters a collaborative environment, encouraging interdisciplinary projects and active participation in both local and national conferences.

Monthly workshops further build essential research skills, including study design, statistical analysis, and manuscript writing. This comprehensive approach equips residents not only to contribute meaningfully to the field but also to develop analytical skills that enhance their clinical practice and support future academic careers.
