Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program

Mapping your radiology journey at Tufts Medical Center

Our Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program curriculum is designed to prepare trainees thoroughly for the core examination and their future radiology careers. Over four years, residents gain increasing autonomy and develop confidence and proficiency across all imaging modalities.

From the first year, residents receive early hands-on experience in abdominal MRI and cardiovascular imaging. In the second year, they complete a three-month dedicated pediatric radiology rotation at Boston Children’s Hospital, along with continued pediatric imaging exposure at Tufts Medical Center.

The fourth year offers up to six months of elective time. This flexible period allows residents to reinforce core radiology skills or pursue mini-fellowships in subspecialty areas tailored to their interests and career goals.

Our program includes the Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) pathway, approved by the ACGME in January 2017. We accommodate up to three internal candidates per class for this advanced training track.

The majority of clinical training occurs at Tufts Medical Center, a 415-bed, Level 1 trauma academic hospital located in downtown Boston. Tufts Medical Center is the principal teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine, which sponsors 19 specialty ACGME-accredited clinical training programs.

Resources we offer:

  • Departmental Grand Round Series
  • MRI online subscription
  • New England Roentgen Ray Society participation
  • Time off and stipend for conferences when presenting
  • TMC Autopsy Conference participation
