Weekly conferences + educational curriculum for infectious diseases fellows at Tufts Medical Center

Our infectious diseases fellowship offers a rich and diverse schedule of conferences, lectures and case discussions designed to enhance clinical knowledge, research skills and teaching abilities.

Throughout the week, fellows participate in a variety of regular meetings, including didactic lectures, journal clubs, case conferences and specialty sessions. These provide opportunities to stay current on emerging science, discuss challenging cases, review research, and develop skills as clinician educators.

Tufts Medical Center infectious diseases fellowship inpatient + outpatient rotations

Our infectious diseases fellowship offers a well-rounded clinical experience through carefully structured inpatient and outpatient rotations. Fellows gain hands-on training at three major teaching hospitals, caring for a diverse patient population with a wide range of infectious diseases. The rotation schedule balances clinical exposure with continuity clinics and specialized outpatient opportunities, supported by a dedicated microbiology laboratory rotation to deepen your diagnostic skills.

Below is an overview of the typical inpatient and outpatient rotations, designed to provide comprehensive training and prepare you for a successful career in infectious diseases.

Inpatient rotations

Inpatient rotations typically last one month at a time:

• Tufts Medical Center
  • One of two general infectious diseases consult services
  • Transplant infectious diseases consult service
• Lahey Hospital and Medical Center
  • General infectious diseases consult service
• Lemuel Shattuck Hospital
  • General infectious diseases consult service

Outpatient rotations

• Continuity clinic: half-day weekly clinic throughout the two-year fellowship
• Optional clinics:
  • Transplant infectious diseases clinic
  • Mycobacterial clinic (collaboration with Infectious Diseases and Pulmonary teams)
  • Wound care clinic

Microbiology laboratory rotation

Fellows complete a rotation in the Microbiology Lab to gain exposure to diagnostic testing and lab operations related to infectious diseases.
