Program structure
PGY-1
Build a strong clinical and surgical foundation, developing the core competencies that underpin all of urologic practice.
PGY-2–3
Progress into core urology rotations with expanding operative exposure across a wide range of procedures, cases and patient populations.
PGY-4
Deepen your expertise through advanced subspecialty experiences with greater autonomy in surgical and clinical decision-making.
PGY-5
Step into the chief resident role, leading complex surgical cases, guiding junior residents and representing the program’s educational mission.

Conferences + Education
Learning takes place every day in the OR, in the clinic and in the classroom. Our structured educational programming supports board preparation and lifelong clinical growth and includes:

- Resident-led presentations

Rotations + Schedules
Residents rotate across all Tufts Medicine-affiliated training sites on a structured schedule that balances operative experience, outpatient clinic time, inpatient management and call responsibilities. Scheduling is designed to support learning and wellbeing while providing broad clinical exposure.
Hospital Affiliations
You'll train at a network of leading institutions throughout the greater Boston area:
- Tufts Medical Center: Your primary academic teaching hospital, offering comprehensive exposure to complex urologic care, advanced surgical procedures and multidisciplinary patient management.
- Lowell General Hospital: Community-based urology and surgical experience alongside experienced clinical teams.
- MelroseWakefield Hospital: Additional outpatient and surgical exposure in a community setting.
- Boston Children's Hospital: Pediatric urology training at one of the nation's leading pediatric centers, caring for infants, children and adolescents with a wide range of urologic conditions.
Research + Scholarly Activity
Research is a core part of your development as a urologist. At Tufts Medicine, you'll have access to:
- Formal research mentorship from faculty with active scholarly programs
- Training in study design, methodology and data analysis
- Faculty-guided clinical, translational and outcomes-based research projects
- Abstract and manuscript development support
- Presentation opportunities at regional and national meetings including the American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting

Our residents regularly contribute to peer-reviewed publications and national scientific presentations, advancing urologic knowledge throughout their training.

Great urologists are also great teachers. Residents play an important role in the educational mission of Tufts Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine. You'll have opportunities to:
