A distinctive feature of our program is our subspecialty-based system, which includes two-week rotations in each medical subspecialty. This structure allows residents to learn directly from board-certified faculty experts and engage deeply with the nuances of each field. Located in the heart of Boston’s Chinatown, Tufts Medical Center serves a racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse patient population, including a large Asian immigrant community. We believe that exposure to a wide range of patient backgrounds and pathologies is essential to training well-rounded, culturally competent physicians.
At Tufts Medical Center, we pride ourselves on creating a supportive and intellectually curious learning environment—one where saying “I don’t know” is embraced as a starting point for collaborative learning. Our educational philosophy is based on how adults learn, providing residents with the autonomy and space to make decisions, under tailored supervision that fosters progressive independence. One of the highlights of our program is the resident-run Morning Report, filled with amazing teaching cases, robust clinical discussions and laughter. We have maintained a 100% ABIM board pass rate for over nine years, a reflection of our innovative subspecialty model and the complexity of the patients we serve. Our academic advising program provides personalized guidance to help residents meet their career goals, identify research mentors and prepare for fellowship or job placement. Each year, our graduates go on to top academic fellowship programs and clinical positions across the country.
