Internal Medicine Residency Program - How to Apply

Application information

Applicants to our Categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All internship positions are offered exclusively through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Please note: we do not offer a one-year preliminary medicine program.

Signaling

Applicants who signal our program and meet our selection criteria will receive preferential consideration for interview invitations. We strongly recommend you signal our program if you are interested in training at Tufts Medical Center. However, all applications are reviewed holistically, and signaling serves as one component of our comprehensive evaluation process.

Please note that signaling our program does not guarantee you will receive an interview.

Geographic preferences

Applicants who indicate a geographic preference for our region or have indicated no geographic preference to any region and meet our selection criteria will receive prioritized consideration.

Interviews

Invitations to interviews are extended on a rolling basis via email through ERAS between October and the end of December. Applicants who are not selected for an interview will also be notified via ERAS email.

International Medical Graduates

In addition to the application requirements listed for U.S. Graduates (above), international medical graduates must meet the following criteria:

Completion of at least two months of clinical rotations in the United States involving direct patient care responsibilities (observerships do not meet this requirement)
Two letters of recommendation must be from clinical supervisors within the United States
USMLE Step 2 score
Medical school graduation date must be within four years of the start of the internship, unless the applicant has been enrolled in a U.S.-based clinical fellowship or residency program
Applicants must be eligible for a J-1 visa sponsored by the ECFMG. Tufts Medical Center does not sponsor H-1b visas, except for applicants who are already on a clinical H-1b visa
