Our current fellows come from diverse backgrounds and bring a wide range of clinical interests and experiences. They are passionate about learning, growing, and contributing to the field of child and adolescent mental health. Through hands-on clinical work, teaching and research, our fellows develop the skills and knowledge needed to become skilled, compassionate clinicians and leaders.
Having had the opportunity to live in Michigan, Hong Kong and Hawai’i, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for diversity and culture. I’ve also learned the importance of connection—and the power of aloha!—which has been a driving force in my path toward medicine and psychiatry. I was quickly drawn to the supportive, compassionate community at Tufts Medical Center and am honored and excited to be part of it. I look forward to serving and learning from the Boston community as I continue to grow into a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, with particular interests in psychotherapy, community psychiatry, treating eating disorders, and advocacy work. When I’m not in the office, you might find me exploring Boston through food and live music, or checking out a swim or run club!
Dr. Brittany Thompson is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellow at Tufts Medical Center. She completed her general psychiatry residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee before returning home to Massachusetts for fellowship.
A central theme in Dr. Thompson’s life, both personally and professionally, is community. She is passionate about bringing people together and creating spaces where others feel seen, heard and welcomed. Whether she is building community among colleagues, connecting people with shared interests or hosting a game night with friends, she finds joy in creating spaces where people can show up as themselves and feel a genuine sense of belonging.
Her career interests include organizational psychiatry, leadership and Black mental health. She is particularly interested in how thoughtful leadership, culture and community can shape the well-being of both the people receiving mental health care and those providing it.
Outside of psychiatry, Dr. Thompson enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, spending time with family and friends, hosting gatherings and playing The Sims 4. She is happy to be back in Massachusetts and looks forward to continuing to build community both within and beyond medicine.
Having grown up across both the United States and South Korea, I developed an early appreciation for navigating different cultural contexts and the ways these shape identity and mental health. I was drawn to Tufts Medicine because of its strong commitment to serving diverse communities, the warmth I felt from faculty and fellows during the interview process, and the program’s dedication to teaching. Since starting fellowship, I have been continually inspired by enthusiastic and driven mentors who not only challenge me to grow as a clinician but also provide invaluable teaching and guidance. Tufts Medicine has offered me the opportunity to pursue my interests in working with immigrant and international populations while also engaging in rich teaching experiences that deepen my understanding of child and adolescent psychiatry. I am grateful to be training in such a supportive and dynamic environment and look forward to continuing to grow here.
Born and raised in Western, PA I grew up with access to beautiful outdoor wooded areas and a love for Pittsburgh Sports (Go Pens!). I completed my medical school and residency training in the peaceful lakeside city of Erie, PA. Having done all my training in a community hospital setting, I knew that I wanted to do fellowship in a larger city at an academic center, but still hoped to have the collegial environment of a smaller program. The Tufts Medicine CAP Fellowship program strikes a perfect balance. As a fellow, I have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of rich clinical experiences that come with a larger academic program, but the comfort of being part of a close knit supportive group of fellows. I have really enjoyed living in South Boston, which is a short voyage in the medical center. My goals in the future are to work in a combination of inpatient and outpatient care while exploring my special interests in Autism, LGBTQIA+ mental health, and South Asian mental health. In my free time I enjoy running along the harbor with my dog Deivi, exploring the city with my Fiancée, and cooking new recipes.
I’m excited join the team here at Tufts Medicine, where I will be learning to better care for children and adolescents in Boston and beyond. I’m happy to be joining such a supportive environment where I can learn and grow further as a child and adolescent psychiatrist. I am looking forward to finding mentors here at Tufts and pursuing my personal interests in boys’ mental health and digital media. I have only been here for 2 months, but I already feel at home with my fellow fellows and the programs’ attendings. The multiple rotations are also exposing me to unique learning environments, including my first CBAT exposure at St Anns Home and School in Methuen. The other strength of this program is the alumni network, which I have already encountered at St Anns, and will likely continue to encounter during my time here in Massachusetts. I’m looking forward to expanding my psychotherapy skills while in fellowship, and to becoming an expert in all aspects of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
