Ann + Jamie’s Kidney Donation Story: More than a Match

After 32 years of marriage, Ann donated a kidney to her husband Jamie—turning a diagnosis of kidney failure into a story of hope, resilience and the power of living donation.

When Jamie McNamara was diagnosed with kidney failure, life changed for him, his wife Ann and their two sons. As his condition progressed, the family began exploring options with the transplant team at Tufts Medical Center. That's when they learned about living kidney donation—a path that could give Jamie a better quality of life without dialysis.

For Ann, the decision to donate was a deeply personal one, rooted in love and commitment. She chose to become a living donor so Jamie could have the chance to feel like himself again.

Throughout the process, Ann and Jamie were supported by a dedicated transplant team who guided them through evaluations, surgery and recovery with care and compassion. Every step was focused on protecting both donor and recipient—ensuring Ann could donate safely while giving Jamie the best possible outcome.
