Perkins Laboratory

Rebecca Perkins, MD, MSc, is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tufts University School of Medicine and an Attending Gynecologist at Tufts Medical Center.

About

Dr. Perkins’ career is dedicated to reducing the incidence and morbidity of cervical cancer. Her current research focuses on novel approaches to cervical cancer screening and guidelines for improving screening and management of abnormal test results. Cervical cancer affects over 14,000 women in the US and over 650,000 women globally each year. Although nearly completely preventable, the disease continues to be one of the leading cancer killers of women under age 40. Our current and planned research includes: 1) using embodied conversational agents to improve primary and secondary cancer prevention; 2) programs to improve cervical cancer screening and follow-up after abnormal results; 3) development of a novel strategy for risk-based screening and management using self-collected screening and AI assessment of digital cervical images.
