Content validity was determined in the original tool by a panel of 18 experts and Delphi surveys as well as qualitative interviews with 20 members of the general public.
Criterion validity:
Criterion validity was assessed using the Korean version of the HLS-EU Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q16) and the Newest Vital Sign e-health Literacy Scale.

10% of participants completed the questionnaire twice to determine test-retest reliability.

There is an additional validation article for this tool posted in 2026 using data from the overall Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Data for this found Cronbach's Alpha to be 0.92 for internal consistency.
