Overview

Principal Investigator: Benjamin Wessler

In this study, we are evaluating whether screening for heart valve disease can be integrated into routine primary care visits. After an outpatient clinic appointment, participants will have a brief heart ultrasound scan using a commercially available, FDA‑approved point‑of‑care ultrasound device. The ultrasound images are analyzed using an investigational computer algorithm that is being studied for research purposes only, along with review by the study team. The goal of this research is to assess the feasibility of incorporating this screening process into primary care.

Study Requirements

Participants will be asked to have a brief heart ultrasound scan after a routine primary care clinic visit. The scan takes about 10 minutes and is performed by a trained medical assistant using a handheld, FDA‑approved ultrasound device. The ultrasound images will be analyzed for research purposes using a computer program and reviewed by a cardiologist. Your primary care provider will also receive the results and will discuss them with you as part of your usual medical care. No additional visits, tests, or treatments are required as part of the study.
