Postpartum anemia’s symptomatic impact remains poorly characterized. Existing studies link postpartum anemia to adverse outcomes including depression, decreased breastfeeding, and dyspnea, however symptom burden has rarely been a primary focus. Without evidence demonstrating that treatment leads to improved outcomes, providers lack the basis needed to set treatment thresholds. This study prospectively surveys postpartum patients with and without anemia to characterize symptom profiles and inform future care guidelines.
