Hands-on training in advanced GI + liver care

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at Tufts Medical Center is structured to provide both flexibility and depth, supporting each fellow’s individual career goals while delivering comprehensive training in core clinical competencies. Graduates complete the program with advanced expertise in the diagnosis and management of liver disease, gastrointestinal bleeding and a wide spectrum of acute and chronic GI disorders, as well as proficiency in a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

Fellows gain focused training in subspecialty areas such as inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal motility, clinical nutrition, medical weight management, pancreaticobiliary diseases, esophageal disorders, general hepatology and liver transplantation. The curriculum also includes advanced endoscopic techniques, including ERCP, EUS, endoscopic mucosal resection and balloon-assisted enteroscopy.

Clinical training is centered at Tufts Medical Center with additional rotations at Boston Medical Center (Brighton) and MetroWest Medical Center in the third year. This multi-site model offers a diverse and high-volume training experience, combining academic rigor with broad exposure to varied patient populations and practice settings. Fellows also benefit from robust opportunities in clinical research, quality improvement and academic scholarship across the training sites.
