Our infectious diseases fellowship offers a well-rounded clinical experience through carefully structured inpatient and outpatient rotations. Fellows gain hands-on training at three major teaching hospitals, caring for a diverse patient population with a wide range of infectious diseases. The rotation schedule balances clinical exposure with continuity clinics and specialized outpatient opportunities, supported by a dedicated microbiology laboratory rotation to deepen your diagnostic skills.
Below is an overview of the typical inpatient and outpatient rotations, designed to provide comprehensive training and prepare you for a successful career in infectious diseases.
Inpatient rotations
Inpatient rotations typically last one month at a time:
- Tufts Medical Center
- One of two general infectious diseases consult services
- Transplant infectious diseases consult service
- Lahey Hospital and Medical Center
- General infectious diseases consult service
- Lemuel Shattuck Hospital
- General infectious diseases consult service
Outpatient rotations
- Continuity clinic: half-day weekly clinic throughout the two-year fellowship
- Optional clinics:
- Transplant infectious diseases clinic
- Mycobacterial clinic (collaboration with Infectious Diseases and Pulmonary teams)
- Wound care clinic
Microbiology laboratory rotation
Fellows complete a rotation in the Microbiology Lab to gain exposure to diagnostic testing and lab operations related to infectious diseases.
