Conferences + Lectures

Learning through lectures and case-based conferences

Our core conferences are designed to give fellows a strong foundation in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism—while also promoting skills in clinical reasoning, research and independent learning. These educational sessions offer the chance to explore complex disease processes in greater depth than is typically possible at the bedside or in outpatient clinics. Fellows engage in interactive discussions, develop academic communication skills and build the knowledge base needed for advanced endocrine practice.

Endocrinology Speakers Series

Held weekly from September to June, the Endocrinology Speaker Series is a hybrid CME-accredited educational activity featuring faculty from Tufts Medicine and distinguished guests. Invited speakers provide comprehensive updates in endocrinology, covering the latest advancements and insights.

Clinical Endocrinology Conference

Held weekly, the Clinical Endocrinology Conference offers fellows the chance to present clinical cases encountered in both inpatient and outpatient settings for in-depth discussions and literature reviews on disease processes, pathophysiology and treatment. Specific sessions of the Clinical Endocrinology Conference are dedicated to an in-depth review of the In-Service-Examination (ITE).

Nuclear Medicine Conference

Held monthly, the Nuclear Medicine Conference aims to help develop the skills needed for reading and interpreting nuclear medicine scans in relation to Endocrinology. The appropriate indications for ordering nuclear medicine scans and the basic scientific principles that underlie the use of each radiopharmaceutical are reviewed.

Endocrine-Surgical-Pathology Conference

Held monthly, the Endocrine-Surgical-Pathology Conference offers an opportunity to review the pathological findings at both gross and microscopic levels of various endocrine disorders, including thyroid carcinoma, parathyroid adenoma, pituitary adenoma, islet cell tumors, pheochromocytoma, adrenal adenomas and adrenal carcinoma, while also learning about the appropriate surgical management of these disorders.

Thyroid Aspiration Biopsy Conference

Held monthly, the objective of this conference is to become familiar with reading and interpreting aspiration biopsies of the thyroid. This practical session involves reviewing all aspiration biopsies performed in the preceding month under a multi-headed microscope, alongside a cytologist and the attending endocrinologist who conducted the thyroid FNA.

Journal Club

Held monthly, the Journal Club helps the fellows develop the ability to critically read clinical and research articles in Endocrinology. Typically, 2 articles are presented. 1 is chosen by the trainee assigned for that month, and the other is selected by the attending assigned for that month. Participation in the Journal Club offers instruction in clinical epidemiology, biostatistics and clinical decision theory.

Didactic Lecture Series

In addition to the weekly conferences mentioned above, didactic sessions are held from July to September and periodically throughout the remainder of the year. The curriculum aims to provide formal instruction in the most common endocrine disorders and conditions. Specific sections of the Didactic Lecture Series are dedicated to hands-on training for automated insulin delivery devices and continuous glucose monitoring.
