The Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman Fellowship Program provided support and funding for Endocrinology and Diabetes Fellows from 2000 to 2022. The Friedman Fellowship Program was established with a generous gift from Dr. Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman New York Foundation for Medical Research, a charitable organization dedicated to empowering scientists and clinicians focused on improving health and curing disease. The Friedman Program is no longer active at Tufts Medical Center.
The Friedman Fellows carried on Dr. Gerald J. Friedman's legacy of dedication and devotion to the health and well-being of patients with diabetes and metabolic disease. Dr. Friedman's focus on applying clinical practice and advancing knowledge through research and education mirrors the Medical Center's major tenets and the values of our Friedman Fellows.
Anastassios G. Pittas, M.D., M.S., Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division, was the first Friedman Fellow. Lisa Ceglia, M.D., M.S., Associate Professor of Medicine, also trained as a Friedman Fellow.
We celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Friedman Foundation Program at Tufts Medical Center with a video highlighting the program's reach.
