Diagnostic Radiology Residency - Training Experience

Training Experience

Hands-on radiology training that shapes tomorrow’s experts at Tufts Medical Center

Our training program offers a well-rounded experience that balances core radiology skills with opportunities to explore your specific interests. Starting from your first year, you’ll get hands-on practice interpreting studies in all imaging modalities, including MRI, CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and interventional radiology.

You’ll rotate through diverse clinical settings at Tufts Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital. This gives you exposure to a wide variety of patient populations and complex cases, from pediatric imaging to orthopedic and trauma studies.

The curriculum includes dedicated teaching conferences, board exam preparation and a structured progression of responsibility. In your fourth year, you’ll have the flexibility to pursue electives, mini-fellowships or research projects that align with your career goals.

Throughout your training, faculty mentors provide individualized guidance to help you grow clinically and professionally. This comprehensive experience prepares you to excel in fellowship, academic practice or private practice.

Where you’ll train

Our residency program offers a rich, diverse training experience across world-class hospitals. From our bustling academic home at Tufts Medical Center to specialized rotations at leading institutions in Boston, residents gain broad clinical exposure and learn from experts across many fields.

This variety helps prepare our residents to be skilled, confident radiologists ready to take on any challenge.

  • Tufts Medical Center: Our home institution and a major academic medical center offering heart, kidney, liver and bone marrow transplants, advanced neurosurgical care and innovative cancer treatments. It's also home to the Boston Gamma Knife Center, the first and only center of its kind in Massachusetts and Northern New England.
  • Boston Children’s Hospital: Second-year residents spend 3 months on a pediatric radiology rotation at Boston Children's Hospital, the nation’s leading children’s hospital and a center of excellence in pediatric imaging.
