"We take great pride in our organizational commitment to quality and patient safety," said Diana Richardson, President of Tufts Medical Center.

Tufts Medical Center has received an 'A' rating in the Fall 2023 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a recognition of the Medical Center's achievement in delivering high quality, safe patient care. The 'A' grade is the highest designation bestowed by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, focused on promoting healthcare quality and safety. Tufts MC now has received an "A" grade in six of the past seven Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade rankings.

"We take great pride in our organizational commitment to quality and patient safety," said Diana Richardson, President of Tufts Medical Center. "It is extremely important to our care team to treat all patients as if they were a family member, and it's very satisfying to see that dedication recognized by Leapfrog."

Twice per year, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades -- 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D' or 'F' -- to hospitals across the country, based on their record in more than 30 national patient safety performance measures. These criteria reflect the hospitals' performance in limiting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as instituting systems to prevent patient harm.

"Creating and maintaining a culture of safety and high-quality care requires the buy-in from every member of the care team, from doctors and nurses to physician assistants and clinical care technicians," said Erik Garpestad, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Tufts Medical Center. "When it comes to quality and patient safety, you can't take a day off, and our sustained excellence in Leapfrog's Hospital Safety Grade rankings affirms that we are delivering on that promise to our patients."

Leapfrog's Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
