Tufts Medical Center has been recognized with an 'A' rating in the Spring 2023 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a testament to the Medical Center's achievements in maintaining the highest levels of patient safety. Tufts MC has received an "A" grade several times in recent Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade rankings. The 'A' grade is the highest designation bestowed by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization committed to healthcare quality and safety.

"Patients and their families put trust in us each day and hold us to the highest standard to provide them with safe, high-quality care," said Michael Tarnoff, MD, CEO of Tufts Medical Center. "This latest A rating from Leapfrog affirms our commitment and dedication to safe patient care, and provides peace of mind to our patients and families that we are meeting or exceeding their high expectations for us."

Twice per year, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades -- 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D' or 'F' -- to hospitals across the country, based on their record in more than 30 national patient safety performance measures. These criteria reflect the hospitals' performance in limiting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as instituting systems to prevent patient harm.

"I am grateful for our teams across many key areas throughout the organization to create and maintain patient safety excellence," said Erik Garpestad, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Tufts Medical Center. "We are extremely proud in receiving an 'A' in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, and it only serves to motivate us to continue to innovate, improve and challenge ourselves to continue to uphold this high standard."

Leapfrog's Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
