Santa Claus, aka Paul Beausoleil, Sun Santa Coordinator Nancy Roberts, Tufts Medicine/Lowell General Hospital CEO Jody White and Lowell Sun Charities President Kevin Coughlin hold a check for $60,000 representing the money raised by the 19th annual Themed Basket Raffle fundraiser.

Over the past 19 years, the Sun Santa Gift Basket Raffle has raised more than $1.2 million for Sun Santa Charities and the Lowell Sun newspaper, which uses the funds to provide holiday celebrations across Greater Lowell for families in need. Due to the pandemic, the raffle has been streamed online.

Each year, Lowell General Hospital departments come together to donate money and create extravagant gift baskets. This year, 30 different departments chipped in to create the 23 baskets, which ranged in value from $400 to $1,200 and included technology, a pizza oven, high-end luggage and lots of cash and lottery tickets.

The 19th annual raffle was once again emceed by Lowell General Chief Executive Officer Jody White, who praised the generosity of the staff during another challenging year.

“Every day, our dedicated staff puts our patients first, but they still take the time to donate money to make this fundraiser special,” White said. “Lowell Sun Charities puts the people of Greater Lowell first every year, and we could not be more proud to support their work.”
