MelroseWakefield Healthcare Imaging in Stoneham Offers the Latest in MRI Technology

November 21, 2021

The Department of Radiology at MelroseWakefield Healthcare now offers the latest MRI technology to improve patient comfort and care at its imaging facility at 48 Montvale Ave. in Stoneham.

The MRI scanner is upgraded to the latest GE 1.5 Tesla technology and will decrease scan times dramatically – by nearly 50% for certain exams. The time reduction aims to improve the care experience for patients by imaging more quickly while also maintaining the highest quality.

“We are excited to bring the latest 1.5 Tesla MRI technology to MelroseWakefield Healthcare, benefitting the patients and clinicians in our communities. At the core of our mission is the promise to deliver an exceptional patient care experience. Our team at MelroseWakefield Healthcare is doing just that – one MR exam at a time,” said Dr. Arnold Cheung, chair of Radiology at MelroseWakefield Hospital. “Faster scan times will lead to greater efficiency and eventually towards decrease wait time for patients who need to schedule MRI exams.”

“Patients undergoing MRI scans, worldwide, have complained about the length of time they need to stay still during a scan,” said Dr. Jakub Reczek, a neuroradiologist at MelroseWakefield Hospital. “This new technology improves the experience for patients by dramatically limiting the length of the scan.”

The MRI technology supports many comprehensive clinical programs offered at MelroseWakefield Hospital, including orthopedics, spine surgery, urology and cardiology.

“There is tremendous convenience for patients to be able to receive their MRI scans in the community without traveling into Boston and paying for parking,” said John Seccareccio, imaging director. “We’re excited to be able to support the community with this advanced service.”
