Tufts Medicine announced today that Jason D. Wright, MD, has been named Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Obstetrician- and Gynecologist-in-Chief at Tufts Medical Center (Tufts MC), and Louis E. Phaneuf Teaching and Research Chair and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology Tufts School of Medicine.
In his new role, Dr. Wright will lead the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tufts Medicine's Boston-based academic medical center and the school of medicine. He will collaborate with leaders within Women's Health to ensure excellence in obstetric and gynecologic services, including gynecologic oncology, maternal-fetal medicine, urogynecology, minimally invasive surgery and family planning. Dr. Wright will also lead efforts to expand access to clinical trials and increase access to innovative care, while developing additional OBGYN research and training opportunities across Tufts MC and the school of medicine.

Dr. Wright joins Tufts MC from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he served as Chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Sol Goldman Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. At Columbia, he oversaw significant clinical and academic growth in gynecologic oncology and led the development of several multidisciplinary programs, including a center for women's population health and one of the first centers in the country devoted to the care of women with placenta accreta spectrum disease.

An accomplished physician-scientist and internationally recognized leader in comparative effectiveness and outcomes research, Dr. Wright's work uses large-scale datasets and simulation models to analyze new treatments and technologies to reduce the burden of disease. His research on the effectiveness of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, the efficacy of fertility-conserving cancer treatments and the safety of uterine morcellation has changed treatment paradigms in gynecology. He has published more than 600 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and has been funded by the National Institutes of Health as well as numerous societies and philanthropic sources. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Dr. Wright holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science and his Medical Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency and fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and serves as an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His work has received numerous awards, and he has been recognized nationally for teaching and mentorship.
