Amy Hoey and Jody White

Lowell General Hospital has named Amy Hoey as the organization’s president, succeeding Jody White in that role. Hoey, a Groton resident, is the first registered nurse to serve as president in the hospital’s 130-year history.

White retains his Chief Executive Officer title and remains committed to the hospital and its board. He will assume an expanded role with the Tufts Medicine system, with a focus on advancing the mission and vision of its integrated physician network.

As president, Hoey will continue to lead the hospital’s day to day operations while working closely with her colleagues across Tufts Medicine to identify and execute on operational opportunities.

“Amy Hoey is a proven leader who is deeply respected by our staff and physician community,” White said. “I could not be prouder of what this organization has accomplished under Amy’s leadership, and there is no better person to lead our hospital forward as we realize the potential of Tufts Medicine to transform healthcare here in the Merrimack Valley.”

Since joining the organization in 1997 as a nursing clinical leader, Hoey has held a series of ascending leadership positions, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer since 2013.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hoey served as the hospital’s Incident Commander in its emergency response, leading all pandemic-related operations, as well as the creation of two off-site field hospitals and a regional vaccination site.

“It continues to be a great honor to work with an incredibly talented team that brings Lowell General’s standards of excellence to bear every day,” Hoey said. “As our hospital enters a new chapter in our great history, I’m excited to leverage the potential of Tufts Medicine and advocate for the growing health needs of Greater Lowell’s patients and their families.”
