2019’s First Baby Arrives Just After Midnight

January 1, 2019

Lowell General Hospital didn’t have to wait long for the hospital’s first baby of the year.

2019 First Baby

Sara Marielle Lyons was born at 12:04 a.m. to parents Scott and Mara Lyons of Lowell. Sara weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces. She is now a little sister to the Lyons’ first child, Steven, age 4.

Despite arriving just minutes into 2019, Sara was not the first baby born in Massachusetts. A newborn at Boston Medical Center staked claim to that title, arriving just after the stroke of midnight, according to news reports.

Did you know that about 2,300 babies are born at The Birthplace at Lowell General Hospital each year?
