When your child needs surgery, we provide compassionate, coordinated care for your child. We create a care plan to meet your child’s unique needs and make your whole family feel comfortable throughout the procedure.
Surgical care designed for kids
We know that surgery can be a scary experience, equally for kids and their caregivers, so we take every measure to ensure that you both feel comfortable every step of the way. We take the time to explain everything to your child in a way that is easy for them to understand, and we are always available to answer any questions you and your child may have. We prepare your child well before the surgery to ensure they are fully ready for the big day. You are welcome to stay with them until they fall asleep, and we will keep you updated throughout the procedure.
Once the surgery is complete, we will provide you with all the necessary information and get you back to your child in recovery as soon as possible. You can trust that your child is in safe and caring hands with us.
No one wants to hear the word "surgery," especially when it comes to your kids. But, if your little one needs a surgical procedure, we make it as easy and comfortable as possible. Some of the major illnesses and conditions that we treat using minimally invasive and other surgical techniques include:
Support for your child
A trip to one of our hospitals shouldn't be stressful for you or your child. We have certified child life specialists (CCLS) that help support your entire family and minimize any anxiety you all might have. Child life services use tools like Surgi-Sam (a stuffed monkey) to teach children about the surgical experience in a non-threatening manner that is understandable from a child's perspective. They can reduce your child's fear of the unknown by better understanding what they may experience. This often makes the hospital or surgery experience easier for the child and less stressful for the family.
We understand that your child's health is the top priority, especially before any surgery. We will do a complete evaluation of their current health condition to ensure their safety, we may test for:
- Blood tests
- CT scan
- HIDA scan
- Urine analysis
