Bringing together the strengths of academic medicine and community care

Our system was created to provide Massachusetts hospitals and physicians with a new option for collaboration – bringing together the strengths of academic medicine and community care in a model that respects both equally. Wellforce – the original name of our system – was formed in 2014 by Circle Health (including Lowell General Hospital) and Tufts Medical Center as well as the physicians on New England Quality Care Alliance and the Lowell General Physician Hospital Organization.

On January 1, 2017, MelroseWakefield Healthcare, previously Hallmark Health, including MelroseWakefield Hospital, Lawrence Memorial Hospital and the Hallmark Physician Hospital Organization, joined the system as an equal, founding member.

Understanding the importance and growing need for home health services, Wellforce expanded its reach to create one of the largest home health and hospice providers in the region. On October 1, 2018, Home Health Foundation joined Wellforce.

In 2021, our physician networks joined together to form one quality and value driven clinically integrated network.

On, March 1, 2022, we announced our new name: Tufts Medicine. Drawing from our close relationship with Tufts University and its Medical School we renamed our system and all members began sharing this identity in combination with their historic names.
